| Baits |
The
bristol channel is a very muddy stretch of
water that only starts to clear west of minehead. Due
to this, a very large and stinking bait
is required. Get your bait as fresh as possible.
|
Squid |
Top
all round bait really. Cheap versatile and effective.
Cod, Bass, Ray and Conga can all be taken on a whole
sqid. If you dont want to use it whole cut it in to
strips about the size and fatness of your fingers, then
use it to tip the end of your worm bait. Can also be
used as part of a cocktail. |
| Mackeral |
Another
cheap and effective bait. Get it as fresh as possible
or blast frozen. The Ammo stuff seems ok as with all
ammo baits i`ve used. |
| Peeler
crab |
The
king of all baits?. The cod come in for the Peelers
and just about every cod that ive opened up has had
crab in it. To attatch to your hook, remove the shell
, legs and hard plates from underneath. Then cut out
the brown lungs from either side.
Thread the hook through the crab a couple of times and
wrap with bait elastic. With Peelers you can get the
hook nice and clear of the bait. |
| Lug
worm |
Cod bait of the highest order. Tip with squid. Thread
hook right through the worm as with Rag. Black lug is
also availiabe. Usually frozen, the guts are removed
before freezing. They are a great winter bait for cod
and are much tougher than normal Blow lug. |
| Rag
Worm |
King
Rag is also an excellent bait. They are full of blood
and juice and must stink to a fish. Thread the hook
right through the worm as with lug. Tip with Squid and
your away. |
| Sand
Eel\Launce |
Highly
rated for ray and Bass. Chop the tail off and thread
the hook from behind the gills right through to the
tail. You can also just chop the head off to and thread
the hook right through. Scent is more important on the
channel than what it looks like. |
You
can use other baits such as Hermit Crab, Razor Fish,
Muscles etc. The above are the more popular baits though. |
